QLD EP AARCMCC & ORRCA Champs

Luke Sinanian, EP driver for beachmums racing demonstrated a driving ettiquette well beyond a level of maturity to that of a thirteen year old with only his second year of racing. With a field of the best Modified drivers in Queensland, Luke drove his TM E4 / 6.5 B/L LOSI with style and grace while the top runners sped past him with awesome speed unscathed and unimpeded.
Luke remained calm and collected in every heat, he yielded to the top runners lap after lap and at times pausing to allow three of them through as not to intefere with those racing for the podium positions. Through the six heats and three finals he achieved lap deviations as low as .74 and personal bests repeatedly throughout the event, his remarkable effort was well rewarded with a substantial trophy and a very proud fellow drivers and fathers.
The Bayside track is a popular venue for electric racers with it’s long straights and tight twisting corners. As the class was limited to one heat due to a lack of drivers in the modified class, our strategy was simple. We shortened our gearing ratio’s to take full advantage of the torque of teh 6.5 turn motor and maintain good infield cornering speed so we did not impede the other drivers who were geared for top speed and allowed the “big boys” much higher straight line speeds to make passing him easy, where passing was possible.
Luke effortlessly opened the racing line to all the other drivers into each of the beginning and end of straights, and ran wide in the sweeping corners without disadvantaging any of the others. It’s no easy feat to maintain a broad view on track, many of us know how tunnel visioned we can be on track and this skill is one that will opne new horizons in the future for him.
Having many familar drivers on stand, including the Queensland Nitro “DOUBLE” champion Jason Dorn, fellow club racers, Tim Wier, Athony Atack and good friend Corey Broadstock, the most rewarding aspect for me in pit lane was witnessing how the “Big Boys” showed Luke utmost respect and allowed him to circulate knowing he would yield at the right time and place and not imped their chances at taking the title.
With the finals approaching the mod drivers stepped up and showed that they were racing keeps, Luke held back while the top runners mixed it up at alarming speeds and the tension rose. Luke kept a cool calm head and maintained his approach to the meeting and brought home a very well earnt 8th position and admiration from the club president Dough Norton and many in the garages for his patience and courtesy on track.

His exemplary display earnt him a post race session with Jason Dorn and Michael Redmond (Nitro 1/8th scale and KART drivers) who were enjoying a fully geared 4 turn modified Xray 09. Doubting Luke had it in him, and with a little encouragement from the two, Luke opened up the throttle and displayed his driving talents to them as can been seen with a big smile and the blood orange red streak of Jsaon’s car hooting it down the straights. His two older mentors showed great surprise, but he and I know, our time will come and when it does, we’ll be ready!!
Cheers to the organisers and volunteers at BRCCC, Athony Atack for the pinion, Jeff and Corey Broadstock, Bernard and Tim Wier for their kind support and to all the drivers on stand that showed no form of protest to having a slower (be it intentional) car on track!
Proud to be an RC Racing DAD
